
- The injury mechanism is a fall on an outstretched arm with dorsiflexion simultaneously with radial or ulnar deviation of the wrist
- Healing distally without problems, in the middle part only 40% heals and in the proximal part 10%
- Caused by the blood supply which comes from distal and goes toward proximal
- Delayed treatment can result in non-union or pseudarthrosis in 20–25% of cases
